Yanmar America today announced the rollout of its new 5 kW mCHP (micro-Combined Heat and Power) system, CP5WN. The new 5 kW system complements the current 10 kW system, CP10WN, and is designed for use in smaller settings than its 10 kW predecessor. Powered by natural gas or propane, the high-efficiency, co-generation unit reduces primary energy consumption by using the waste heat produced during the production of electricity to enable significant energy savings. 

Just like the 10 kW system, the new 5 kW system can be used in both residential and commercial settings. The CP5WN is ideal for residential homes up to about 8,000 square feet; and, its commercial uses include: restaurants, small office buildings, laundromats, small hotels, stand-alone retail establishments and fitness centers.

The co-generation design of the CP5WN makes it 84-percent efficient compared to 33-percent efficiency attained using a traditional utility plant. And, the annual savings on utility costs can be as much as $15,000 in either a commercial or residential setting. By directly generating electrical power at the system’s location, the co-generation system can reduce losses associated with electrical power transmission and use the heat energy that is produced for many heating applications. And, because the system can be powered by natural gas or propane, it has a very low impact on the environment - it reduces emissions and uses less fuel. 

Detailed specifications of the new mCHP 5 kW energy system are available on the Yanmar website. Yanmar dealers are now taking pre-orders. The propane-powered model will be available in October; the natural gas system will be ready in November. 

Yanmar’s mCHP systems are assembled at the company’s plant in Japan, but its U.S. headquarters in Georgia handles all marketing, sales, service and support functions for its network of authorized dealers. This allows Yanmar to provide sales and service training directly from the manufacturer and to provide direct support for service and parts requirements.
