Osaka, Japan (June 7, 2024) - Yanmar, a global leader in advanced marine technology, reaffirms its unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility this World Oceans Day.

Yanmar prioritizes minimizing environmental impact while delivering high-quality marine equipment. The company actively works towards a sustainable future through its ambitious YANMAR GREEN CHALLENGE 2050 initiative which aims to fundamentally transform the company into a greenhouse gas-free company. This initiative sets a clear course for minimizing environmental footprint and eliminating greenhouse gas emissions by developing the next generation of decarbonized propulsion systems and utilizing recycled resources.

Yanmar's dedication to a healthy ocean is evident through its diverse endeavors in the marine domain. By developing world-leading technology to minimize methane slip*1 in large marine engines, Yanmar further demonstrates its commitment to reducing greenhouse gases.

Yanmar Marine International champions sustainable solutions for boaters approving the use of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) fuel for its marine engines. This “drop-in” fuel is a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels and requires no engine modifications. It's a readily available option for customers to take an initial step towards a more sustainable future before widespread adoption of electric boat technology.

Furthermore, Yanmar is at the forefront of fuel cell technology for commercial marine use. The company recently completed its first delivery of a maritime hydrogen fuel cell system to a hybrid passenger ship HANARIA, underlining dedication to clean energy solutions and demonstrating Yamar’s commitment to putting innovations into action for a greener future.

Yanmar’s dedication extends beyond technological advancements with its continued support of marine sports through sponsorships like the AMERICA'S CUP and the Dragon sailing series which highlight the company’s deep commitment to enriching people’s lives with exciting marine experiences and ensuring the long-term well-being of marine sports.

On World Oceans Day and beyond, Yanmar's unwavering dedication to protecting the ocean remains steadfast. Through continuous innovation, collaboration, and sustainable practices, Yanmar leads the way towards a healthier and more sustainable marine environment.

  • *1Methane slip: In engines that use LNG fuel, some of the methane in LNG is passed uncombusted, into the atmosphere. Methane has a higher greenhouse effect compared to CO2, and methane slip reduction is required to reduce GHG emissions.
