By making choices, no matter how small, and taking that first step forward, positive change can ripple outward—like a butterfly effect—spreading empathy and hope, and expanding the circle of those working toward a more sustainable world.
That is the message at the heart of 未ル (Miru).

The Birth of the Unarmed Robot MIRU
Yanmar's founder Magokichi Yamaoka began his journey in manufacturing, driven by the vision of easing the burden on workers through mechanization. This desire—to enrich people’s lives—continues today as part of Yanmar’s values known as HANASAKA. Every project begins with the motivation of “for people” and “for a better life.”
That is why MIRU carries no weapons.
It exists to support and stand by people, growing alongside them.
In this way, MIRU represents the future of industrial machines that Yanmar has long been dedicated to creating.

Yanmar's industrial machines have always been more than tools—
they are trusted partners that support their users' work.
While functionality is essential,
Yanmar also pursues aesthetic appeal to instill a sense of pride and emotional attachment in its users.
The same approach applies to MIRU.
In line with Yanmar's design direction of "Gentleness and Toughness,"
the robot features an organic, gentle form for interacting with people,
while its attachments—reminiscent of Yanmar products—convey strength and power.
MIRU—A Yanmar Product from 100 Years in the Future
What Should the Ideal Product of the Future Look Like?
“If we were to create a Yanmar product for 100 years from now—what would it be?”
This was the question repeatedly asked by the Yanmar Design Division throughout the development process. While honoring the HANASAKA spirit that has been passed down since Yanmar’s founding, the team approached the creation of MIRU with a determination to shape a new design that symbolizes the future.
Born from the theme “What would a Yanmar product look like 100 years from now?”, MIRU is a step toward bridging the gap between futuristic designs often seen in animation and the real products Yanmar will develop going forward.
In fact, the Yanmar Design Division is now entering a new phase—developing advanced design methodologies with a future-oriented focus and building a design platform that enables employees themselves to become creators of the Yanmar brand.
Yanmar Product Vision (YPV) visualizes the ideal form of each business area for 2035, based on the “Intrinsic Design” philosophy, which emphasizes functional value and purpose over traditional style. The design elements developed through YPV will be integrated with Yanmar’s existing design expertise to create a unified platform for products and services—including agricultural machinery, construction equipment, and boats.

Insights from the Original Designers
During the brainstorming stage, a wide range of unique ideas emerged—from rideable robots to amoeba-like forms. From these, the team pursued a balance between “Yanmar-ness” and innovation, ultimately arriving at the current humanoid robot equipped with attachments.
Before the robot was officially named MIRU, the team affectionately referred to it as “Socius”—Latin for “partner.” We hope that you, too, will come to see MIRU as a trusted companion in your life.
