Yanmar announces Europort details

• New 3YM27 lifeboat engine will be on display
• New AYM inland engines will be on display
• Large Yanmar team to be present

At Europort 2015 Yanmar will showcase its full range of commercial marine propulsion and auxiliary engines. The range contains LDC (Light Duty Commercial), CHS (Commercial High Speed) and medium-speed propulsion and auxiliary engines, referred to as Large Engines (LE). They all come with the latest technological developments in terms of the environment, economy and durability. Yanmar engines are fitted to ocean going vessels and for short sea shipping all over the world.

Local subsidiary Yanmar Benelux and the European headquarters Yanmar Europe will join forces on stand 1306. Sales representatives from various countries and backgrounds will be on hand to answer all visitor questions and demonstrate Yanmar’s latest technology. In addition, Yanmar’s neighboring stand (number 1305) will feature Nicoverken, a provider of spares and service for Yanmar medium speed engines. Nicoverken is part of the efficient worldwide service network that keeps Yanmar engines up and running.

Light Duty Commercial (LDC) engines
Yanmar Marine Engines for Light Duty Commercial application with “SOLAS” option, are high power-to-weight ratio marine engines are used in a large variety of industries worldwide such as taxis, high speed fishing boats, fire tenders, pilot vessels, police and customs, military boats, fast response rescue and general workboats. The LDC range with Solas Option starts at 29 hp and goes up to 440 hp (324 kW) available in both existing mechanical 6LY2A version and as new Common Rail 6LY440 version as displayed at the show. Yanmar also shows the unique Twin Prop Yanmar ZT370 sterndrive with hydraulic clutch and hard anodized “Exo” surface protection is a perfect fit for LDC engines from 150 hp up to 370 hp. In addition the new 29 hp 3YM27 will be shown. This tough lifeboat engine uses a keel cooler heat exchanger to save space on board, and knowing how lifeboats are often launched, it is designed to operate normally even through a 30 meter drop to the sea. A block heater is optional so it can be started easily at -25ºC. Should hull damage, bilge pump failure or a full roll occur, the engine will run at full power for at least five minutes with water up to the height of the crankshaft center-line. It is designed for 360º operation.

New Commercial High Speed (CHS) engines
Yanmar’s high-speed engines, 78 hp (57kW) to 1,822 hp (1,340 kW) have a reputation for easy maintenance and low fuel oil consumption, combined with Japanese quality. The new 6 and 12 cylinder AYM series to be shown feature the latest innovations in environmentally friendly engine technology, and they comply with IMO Tier II & CCNR2 NOx limit regulations. The AYM series contains mechanically driven engines, which are perfectly suited to inland vessels. An unusual feature of these engines for the Dutch market is the tax benefit, since they qualify for EIA (Energie Investeringsaftrek, a Dutch tax deduction measure). Ship owners are allowed to deduct up to 41.5% of the investment costs from their taxable profit, which represents an interesting incentive for durable energy investments.

Commercial Medium Speed engines
Yanmar’s large engines are a range of medium-speed propulsion and auxiliary engines, with power from 272 hp (200 kW) to 6090 hp (4800 kW). The medium speed engines are designed to use as fuel normal gas oil, marine diesel oil and heavy fuel oil up to 700 cSt. The rpm of the engines varies from 720 up to 1200 rpm. The engines are used in Europe for short sea shipping, diesel electrical applications, tugboats and fishing vessels. The latest addition to the family is the EY33 auxiliary engine range. Designed with Yanmar’s “harmony with the environment” philosophy in mind, the EY33 features low NOx emissions and excellent fuel economy, despite being more powerful than its predecessor. Mindful of downtime costs, maintenance periods have also been extended.

Some 30,000 marine industry people are expected at the show. Eric Tigelaar, Manager Commercial Marine says, “The team look forward to welcoming visitors to the Stand at Europort. With plenty of staff on hand, we are excited to discuss our ultra modern engine ranges with fellow industry professionals.”
