Certifications
SOLAS
The international convention for the Safety Of Life At Sea is an international treaty that sets minimum safety standards in the construction, equipment, and operation of marine vessels. It is generally regarded as the most important treaty concerning the safety of maritime vessels.
YANMAR’s commitment to research and development ensures that all of our products deliver outstanding performance with regard to safety. SOLAS certification is vital to life-saving, emergency, and other specific categories of commercial vessels. At YANMAR, we are dedicated to engineering an extensive selection of our product range with the additional features required by the rigorous SOLAS regulations. SOLAS approved YANMAR Marine engines are suitable for rescue, life boats, and crew tender boats for the harshest of situations.
All YANMAR engines listed above with SOLAS available have received the EC-type examination certificate. The SOLAS option must be specified at the time of ordering an engine and cannot be retrofitted to products that have already shipped from YANMAR’s factories.
UNITED STATES COAST GUARD (USCG)
The USCG Marine Safety Center (MSC) reviews SOLAS engines to determine compliancy with all applicable laws and regulations in order to be placed on the acceptance list for engines installed in USCG approved SOLAS lifeboats, rescue boats and fast rescue boats. YANMAR diligently submits engine specifications and testing data to acquire USCG acceptance for all engines with the available SOLAS option which are also EPA tier III certified
Emissions Regulations & Standards
EU: 2013/53/EC RCD 2
The European Union regulation for marine recreational crafts up to a hull length of 24m. Effective from Enforce as from 18 January 2017.
US: EPA TIER 3
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates exhaust emissions from diesel engines installed in US registered vessels. EPA Tier III certification is effective from 2014.
IMO
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for measures to improve the safety and security of international shipping and to prevent marine pollution from ships. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/international-maritime-organization.asp
Ship pollution regulations issued by the International Maritime Organization are detailed in the “International Convention on the Prevention of Pollution from Ships”, known as MARPOL 73/78. MARPOL Annex VI sets limits on NOx and SOx emissions from ship exhausts and prohibits deliberate emissions of ozone depleting substances. IMO Tier III standards requires about a 70% reduction of NOx from Tier II standards. Applies for diesel engines >130 kW.
EIAPP
An EIAPP certificate is the internationally-accepted documentation that a specific engine meets the international NOx emission limits for diesel engines set out in Marpol 73/78 regulation 13 of Annex VI. An EIAPP certificate for any engine installed on a US vessel must be issued by EPA.
BSO II
The BSO (Lake Constance Shipping Ordinance) standard applies for all recreational marine engines operating on Lake Constance (Bodensee).
ISO 8665:2017
BS EN ISO 8665:2017 specifies the requirements additional to ISO 15550 for determining the power of marine propulsion reciprocating internal combustion (RIC) engines when presented for documenting and checking of the declared (rated) power published by the manufacturer. This International Standard applies to engines used for propulsion of recreational craft and other small craft of up to 24 m hull length. This International Standard is to be used in conjunction with ISO 15550.
