YANMAR SPONSORS NORWEGIAN DALE OEN EXPERIENCE WITH MARINE ENGINE AND EXPERTISE

February 6, 2019
Yanmar Co., Ltd.

YANMAR proudly sponsors the Norwegian #YOUEXPLORE project, part of the Dale Oen Experience, with a reliable, sea-going engine and technical support and expertise. The sponsorship is a combined activity of YANMAR Marine International who delivered the engine, YANMAR Europe, who supported the project financially and YANMAR Norge and their distributor MarTec AS, who assisted with technical know-how and the installation.

#YOUEXPLORE

#YOUEXPLORE, in western Norway, takes young people, students, out of the classroom and into nature to practice lessons learned at school in real life. The project operates two arctic sailing vessels, the #YOUEXPLORE I and II, both equipped for research and exploration in the northern seas.

Rough marine circumstances

MarTec – with one of their employees volunteering as captain of the boat – had already done the maintenance and preparations for the Explorer II, free of charge. When the original engine, obviously no YANMAR, broke down, MarTec went to YANMAR for an “old school”, mechanical 4LHA-HTP engine, the most suitable engine for reliably powering the boat out into the sea in the most remote and rough areas.”

Supporting young people

Both #YOUEXPLORE and the Dale Oen Experience perfectly match with YANMAR’s social commitment to creating opportunities for young people to make a successful start in their lives and their later careers and as a human being. MarTec has now installed the engine supplied by YANMAR and is finalising the on-board equipment for the first trip to the North Cape.

The Dale Oen Experience

The Dale Oen Experience is an organisation that offers opportunities to the young generation. Over 55,000 young people have taken part in the programme at the Dale Oen centre over the past four years. The organisation was founded in memory of one of Norway´s greatest athletes over time – Alexander Dale Oen, World Champion in swimming who won gold for Norway a few days after the terrorist attacks in Oslo and Utøya in July 2011. He dedicated his medal to the victims of this act, and to all young victims from all over our country.
