Yanmar ViO38: Precision in sewer construction
December 18, 2024
Yanmar Compact Equipment EMEA
For over a decade, Yanmar's compact machines have been a central part of KNAPPMANN's landscaping and construction projects. Most recently, the compact and manoeuvrable ViO38 mini excavator has proven to be indispensable in an intensive sewer construction project.
KNAPPMANN: A leading company in landscaping
Founded in 1960 and based in Essen, the family-owned company KNAPPMANN is
one of the leading landscapers in North Rhine-Westphalia. For more than ten years,
KNAPPMANN has relied on the quality of Yanmar CE machines and counts five ViO38
mini excavators, two SV26 mini excavators and one ViO15 mini excavator in its current
machine park.
Versatile use of Yanmar machines
With more than 180 employees, the company is active in construction site clearance,
clearing, earthworks, civil engineering and sewer construction work, landscaping and
the maintenance of green spaces. Yanmar machines are indispensable for all these
applications, as they are characterized by their high quality, performance, reliability
and ease of use. These are all qualities that are important in KNAPPMANN's
demanding everyday work.
"When deciding to purchase more Yanmar machines, we also took into account the
opinions of our operators – after all, they are the ones who work with the excavators
on a daily basis. The feedback was clear: the machines are user-friendly and enable
very precise work, especially in confined spaces," says one of the construction site
managers at KNAPPMANN.
All-rounder on the construction site
The ViO38 mini excavators, which KNAPPMANN acquired from Yanmar dealer
Kipphardt Bau- und Industriemaschinen in July 2023, are used as all-rounders for all
work on a wide variety of construction sites. In the construction of a secondary school,
one of the excavators is currently being used for sewer construction work - the work
will take about six months. The ViO38's well-known compact dimensions, with a turning
swivel of only 2,875 mm make it particularly suitable for working in confined spaces,
on house walls and under canopies, as well as for search shafts for locating cables.
Equipped with tilt, excavation can be carried out particularly precisely and sensitively.
The ViO38 in use for sewer construction
For its current sewer construction project, KNAPPMAN relies on the Yanmar ViO38
and its unsurpassed versatility. The device is initially equipped with a hydraulic
breaker to remove the concrete and prepare the site for excavation. Once the area is
cleared, a universal excavator bucket is switched to excavate the soil and form the
channel. For more precise work, especially in the area of sensitive structures or utility
lines, the team uses a ditch cleaning bucket coupled with a tilt that allows for
controlled, precise excavation work. After excavation, a wide dozer bucket is used to
backfill and level the area so that the soil can be evenly restored. The quick-change
system is of central importance here, as it enables KNAPPMANN to quickly change
attachments, which minimizes downtimes and increases productivity.
Partnership with Yanmar dealer Kipphardt
Yanmar dealer Kipphardt Bau- und Industriemaschinen, based in Duisburg, was
founded in 1946 and has been selling the Japanese manufacturer's compact machines
since the late 1980s. Customers receive the entire product range: compact mini and
midi excavators, wheeled excavators, wheel loaders and dumpers. The construction
machinery specialist has a large rental fleet and relies exclusively on Yanmar products
in the field of mini excavators and wheeled excavators.
