Yanmar Marine International (YMI) is at the forefront of marine electrical engineering, leading the development of a hydrogen fuel cell concept boat and creating dual-fuel and fully electric propulsion systems. We aim to work closely with OEMs as electric systems integrators, advancing maritime electrification.
We seek an innovative and pragmatic Development Engineer focused on developing various electrical concepts, such as electric propulsion systems.
What are you going to do?
As a Development Engineer at Yanmar Marine International, you’ll be part of our dynamic Development Team, where every day is challenging and different. You will develop cutting-edge electrical systems and solutions for marine applications by collaborating closely with colleagues from various departments, including sales, supply chain, service, and development engineers from Yanmar in Japan.
Your work will encompass innovations and improvement projects to enhance value and quality to serve our customer’s needs. Projects awaiting your expertise include developing a fully electric propulsion system, a serial hybrid drive, and a new genset.
Your main tasks and responsibilities:
- Conduct feasibility studies, determine requirements for new product development, and translate these into functional and technical designs, including detailed drawings and documentation;
- Collaborate with procurement and sales teams to find suitable components and ensure market relevance;
- Build prototypes, create test plans, conduct tests, and report results, ensuring thorough design validation;
- Participate in and organise design reviews, ensuring stakeholder communication and alignment throughout various development projects;
- Perform FMEA to understand and address potential failure modes of components/systems, ensuring robust and reliable designs;
- Engage in maintenance projects to improve products based on customer reviews.

The ideal candidate:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, e.g. Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive or another relevant study;
- Has relevant experience in electric drives, electric propulsion systems, or similar;
- Familiarity with CAN protocols and other electrical communication systems;
- Experience in 2D/3D CAD systems;
- Has a strong ability to analyze, report technical data, and maintain an overview;
- Exhibits hands-on approach, creativity, enthusiasm, proactivity, and eagerness to learn;
- Strong language skills, fluent in both spoken and written English.
Work location:
Your regular workplace is Almere., but hybrid working (40% home/60% office) is possible in this position. Occasional (international) travel to visit suppliers or perform field testing.
