Yanmar training: diverse, useful, and fun!

Raymond Weijenberg, Learning & Development Specialist at Yanmar, regularly provides insights into Yanmar’s diverse training offerings. This time, he discusses the brand-new multilingual training on TN engines above 56kW for the Yanmar service network. He also covers various other sessions, from training courses for tractors and gas engines to distributor training in Kenia.

Our training programs ensure that distributors and dealers are fully informed about the latest developments and regulations, such as emissions standards like Euro Stage V and Tier IV. In one of our recently released courses, they learn all about the technology in our new Yanmar Common Rail engines above 56kW that meets these regulations.

New service training for TN engines above 56kW

In early 2024, Raymond started a new training course for the EMEA service network, focusing on the latest Yanmar high-power TN engines above 56 kW. This marked the first training course in Europe and even the first distributor course across the entire Yanmar Group. Raymond delivered three sessions in English, German, and Dutch over three weeks.

“The exhaust after-treatment system, which includes a particulate filter and our proprietary SCR system, had a leading role. This Selective Catalytic Reduction system achieves excellent NOx reduction even at low exhaust temperatures. Participants learned about the use of AdBlue as an exhaust gas cleaning fluid and explored our user-friendly test and diagnostic tools. “To make learning both useful and fun, we tested knowledge with Kahoot! Games. This always adds an enjoyable element to the serious business of training,” says Raymond, laughing.

Distributor training in Kenia

Raymond also travelled to Africa for training. New distributors in the Yanmar network must be well-informed and capable of advising customers in the most effective way. In Kenia, a group of eight knowledge-hungry employees from regional Yanmar distributors participated in comprehensive training on Yanmar’s mechanically governed engines. These engines represent a range of strong, reliable, and affordable power units, ideal in situations where less stringent exhaust regulations apply.

Gas engines and tractors

But Yanmar offers more. Take gas engines and agricultural machinery as an example; training is also available for these product lines. Raymond concludes:

Recently, I trained a group of German customers on our clean-burning and quiet industrial LPG engines. In German, of course. With the knowledge they gained, they can now update and instruct their own dealer network. Some weeks later, I was in Germany again, but this time for a completely different training at an agricultural dealer holding. This course covered not only the engines but the complete Yanmar tractor. Training on engines in our own-brand tractors always adds a unique dimension for me.
