Yanmar will show two technology concepts indicating the direction of its marine business at the Japan International Boat Show 2018 starting today at Yokohama, Japan.

■ Marine Suspension Boat

This concept boat incorporates Nauti-Craft’s innovative marine suspension system. The system was developed by applying the suspension system of a 4-wheel drive vehicle to a boat. The boat achieves a high level of stability with a hydraulic suspension system that absorbs wave energy. The technology delivers a smooth and stable ride during high-speed turning by actively controlling separate hulls and absorbing wave-energy. The system is expected to enhance boat safety, reduce passenger fatigue, contribute to smoother handling, and improve the accuracy of shipping schedules by reducing the impact of the weather.

■ Diesel Hybrid System

This environmentally friendly hybrid system is powered by both a diesel engine and an electric motor to reduce fuel consumption. At low speed, the system is powered only by the electric motor, while both the diesel engine and the electric motors will power the system at the middle speed range. Furthermore, the system can deliver an acceleration “boost” by adding the power of the electric motor to the engine when “boost assist mode” is selected during acceleration.
